Coming up in Lane 9
Where we'll be this weekend & next week!
But first, a celebration for Alysa Liu and her GOLD MEDAL! We aren’t Figure Skating experts or super fans here, but have been totally rapt by the stories of both Amber Glenn and Alysa Liu. (And a huge congrats to Isabeau Levito, as well!) Liu competed in the 2022 Olympics at age 16 (!!) and then retired, burned out from dedicating her life up to that point to nothing but skating. She came back to the sport two years ago, wanting to try it a different way—have more fun, be more present, still have a life and skate, too. Her story’s certainly not over; she’s just in her gold medal era now. We love it!
Wherever you are in your sport journey right now, we invite you to take this as a gentle reminder that we PLAY sports. Yes, we can compete and set big goals and be dedicated to the craft. But, at the end of the day, is it still fun? Does it feel like play? Watch Liu’s skate from yesterday and see how much fun she’s having, on the OLYMPIC stage, no less.
Events coming up in Lane 9
In other news, we’re attending and hosting some events in the next week, and would love to see you there! While so much of our work is virtual, we are sprinkling in some in-person events this year, and the first one is coming up very soon.
Friday February 20, Case Study Hour with Lane 9 Members
Our Clinician Membership has a virtual event today, at 1pm EST! This is our monthly Case Study Hour, where clinicians across various disciplines—nutrition, mental health, medical care, physical therapy, and coaching—come together to ask questions, share resources, and review unique case studies to keep learning together.
Saturday February 21, in person at WSHE
The second annual Women’s Sports & Health Expo in Grand Rapids MI is tomorrow. We know this is a bit of a niche event, as most of you are not in Michigan at all, but we’ll be there and would love for you to stop by the Lane 9 booth if you’re in the area! Check out the schedule of speakers and vendors here.
Lane 9 dietitian Mel Sulaver MS RDN will be speaking there, as well! “Fueling Her Next Chapter”, sports nutrition considerations for fueling the perinatal and postpartum athlete. Her talk starts at 1:50 PM in Grand Gallery Room B.
Thursday February 26th, a FREE Virtual Event with Athlete Edge
We’re teaming up with EDCare’s Athlete Edge program in Denver CO, and bringing in some of our Lane 9 Clinicians, for a FREE webinar next week.
Eating Disorder & Exercise Considerations for the Adolescent Athlete
Thursday February 26th, 1-2:15 pm EST
This is intended for parents & coaches of adolescent athletes, but welcome to all who’d like to join. If your teen participates in sport, and pass along to their coaches or athletic directors. This panel discussion will feature Dr. Katherine Hill MD, Nicole Speeney MS RDN, and Brandon Kress CSCS, moderated by Heather Caplan RDN and Nicole Rains LPC.
Thank you for supporting Lane 9, and being here with us!
